The UZAZU Core Team

UZAZU is currently powered by a core team of five passionate people, each specialized in a different aspect of what it takes to research, design, develop and deliver the live & online trainings and workshops that UZAZU Embodied Intelligence offers. UZAZU is also deeply grateful to the many contributions and much hard work that so many people around the world have put in over the past 17 years, towards making this embodied model, method, and community what it is today. ❤️

Dylan Newcomb

FounDer, Director, Lead Trainer

Dylan Newcomb is the founder & lead trainer of UZAZU Embodied Intelligence, a master embodiment-based coach for helping professionals & cultural creatives, and an avid embodiment researcher.

Dylan trained at the Juilliard School in both dance performance and music composition, and was a multi-award-winning choreographer-composer in the Netherlands for over a decade. Generously funded by the Dutch government, Dylan went on to co-found Danslab Institute for Movement Research in 2001, where he conducted cross-cultural research for several years, exploring how vocal sounds, breath, and movement influenced thought, emotion, and behavior across hundreds of subjects. This research formed the basis for what has evolved into a comprehensive modality known as UZAZU Embodied Intelligence.

Over the past 18 years, Dylan has taught his unique approach to embodiment training to over 3,000 students across 4 continents. He has trained coaches, therapists, group facilitators, policemen, doctors, and business leaders in how to quickly balance their inner states to bring more ease and flow to their engagement in the world.

Dylan is increasingly recognized as one of the emerging next-generation of leaders in the space of bringing the science and practice of embodiment-based personal development into the 21st Century.

As a master-coach, Dylan Newcomb works 1-1 online with helping professionals, supporting them to move through the remaining blocks holding them back from effectively getting their purpose-driven work into the world, and he works with conscious entrepreneurs & cultural creatives looking to grow their impact, while also growing as a whole person. Dylan lives with his wife Kyung-sun Baek and their 9 year old daughter Kiana in Freeport Maine, USA.

Deb Grant, LCSW, RSMT

CLINICAL ADVISOR & Lead Co-TRAINER

As a licensed social worker (LCSW) and registered somatic movement teacher (RSMT), I bring over 25 years of clinical expertise as a psychotherapist specializing in trauma and somatic work to my role as our clinical advisor. As a co-trainer and certified practitioner myself, I help develop, guide, and deliver our live & online training events and our 10-month certification program, and I actively support our online UZAZU community.

I am certified as a Body-Mind Centering® Somatic Movement Educator, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner, and yoga teacher. I also provide consultation and professional development workshops to helping professionals, exploring the integration of somatic/body-based work with psychotherapy. I’ve presented workshops on Polyvagal Theory at Kripalu and Omega Institute, and am a regular co-presenter & collaborator with Deb Dana, an internationally renowned speaker and educator on Polyvagal Theory.

In addition to my profession as a psychotherapist, I have an extensive background and training in bodywork, theater, and contact improvisation, and teach somatic approaches to improvisational dance and contact improvisation. I am also a DJ for our beloved ecstatic dance community, here in Portland, Maine. I’m currently hunkered down, during COVID, with my recent college graduate daughter, my partner Jason and his 12 year old son, as well as 2 cats and a senior dog. My therapy website is debgrant.net. I love UZAZU and delight in being a part of the UZAZU team!

Natasha Salvo

CURRICULUM DESIGN & COURSE PRODUCTION

At UZAZU, I work to help bring a rigorous approach to the design and development of UZAZU Trainings at all levels, using the ADDIE model, the Kolb Experiential Learning Model, and our own embodiment-based version of the 4Mat Learning Cycle. Through this process, we’ve designed a robust curriculum and competency framework for the Basic and Intermediate Professional & Personal learning journeys, which we’re delivering in stages over the course of 2020-2021.

As a full participant of the first cohort of the 10-month UZAZU Practitioner Certification Training, I’m deeply appreciating the synergy of being engaged in this process, from both the inside and the outside. In addition, I’ve been a lead support for core content design and development around the self-assessment and all things UZAZU, including marketing, website, and community support.

Beyond my UZAZ work, I’m an Instructional Designer for eLearning for both educational institutions and industry. I’m delighted to be able to offer my nuts-and-bolts skills to such a far-reaching yet deeply personal pursuit of personal growth and transformation!

I live in Portland, Maine with my partner, and am a life-long sailor who is Captain of Her Own Ship; a devoted dancer who learned to get “out of her mind and into her body” on the dance floor; a writer of poems, plays, and personal reflection; an actor, a singer, and keyboard explorer; and a lover of the journey of life.

Harjeet Dhingwani

WEB DEVELOPER & LEAD TECHNICIAN

At UZAZU, I’m responsible for technology, including the website, course area, community site, and backend. I’ve also been lead developer on UZAZU’s new, online self-assessment that lets you visualize your embodied patterns in an easy-to-use, interactive graphical map. The amazing team support from everybody at UZAZU has enabled me to make significant contributions over the past year.

I live in Ahmedabad, India (the city of Mahatma Gandhi) and have been working with technology since 2008. I self-studied Website Development and Digital Marketing. I have also studied PMP (Project Management Professional), Multimedia Graphics and Animation at Arena Animation.

I enjoy playing table tennis, cycling, skipping, and exploring the beauty of nature. I also enjoy doing Yoga with my father who is also a Yoga teacher.

Karren Pae Evangelista

Executive, TeaM, and CuStomer Support

At UZAZU, I am Dylan and UZAZU’s Virtual Assistant, which means I help coordinate Dylan’s incredibly busy schedule and task list, assist with overall project management, and support the team so things run smoothly. In addition, I support course production, website updates, and marketing outreach.

For the past 9 years, I’ve been a Virtual Assistant. I worked with Google as Admin Assistant. And I helped with compliance check, project monitoring and HR administrative task such as leaves, hiring process and interviewing of applicants.

I’ve been learning a lot, working with this team—especially in terms of management.
